How To Be A Good Blocker

Well; I am a heavier set girl and yet jamming in practice is fun I get nervous if asked to jam in a bout! But the truth be told if you are a good jammer the better blocker you will become. If you think about it; it makes sense. As a jammer you look for holes, ways to juke the the blockers. Now as you take position as a blocker you remember what you as a jammer look for. Therefore you subconsciously know how to take that away. Derby is not like other sports. In such as basketball you prefect being a point guard or a post you work of skills for that position but in derby you have to know how to play all positions; due to what happens if 2 of your blockers are in the box? Maybe as a jammer you need to step up and become a blocker so the other jammer doesn't score points. There are many reasons why you need to know how to play all positions. But knowing all the spots will also help you in your favorite spot and you will be able to perform at your very best.
So next time at practice when you are scrimmaging ASK if you can jam if you usually block or ask to block if you usually jam. Learning a new outlook on a position will help you tremendously!
